As the Eastern Synod Assembly 2006 commenced on Wednesday, July 5 at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, ON, it was evident right from the beginning that the theme, In Mission for Others, was a focal point for delegates, the synod and the entire church.
In his report to the assembly, Bishop Michael Pryse commended the national church for their focus on the theme, In Mission for Others, ”this is a theme that I applaud and welcome.”
“It is appropriate to our unique identity as a denomination”, continued Bishop Pryse, who also spoke about the renewed vision for mission for the synod which would carry forward for the next biennium and would shape the work of the council and committees.
He also noted that there are a “great many weighty and important items” that would be before the delegates of the Assembly. Of significant attention, Bishop Pryse noted that Waterloo Lutheran Seminary (WLS) requires the synod’s full attention and publicly pledged the continued support of WLS. “We will continue to walk with you,” he said.
